American Society of Civil Engineers warns of underfunded repair efforts.
On Wednesday, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) announced their grade for the nation’s infrastructure. Assessed every four years, the nation’s roads, bridges, levees, water systems, and airports improved marginally but still received the low grade of C-minus. The improvements came from the country’s railroads, drinking water systems, and inland waterways and ports.
Eleven of the 17 categories assessed by ASCE were graded in the “D” range. A press release from ASCE said, “We have not made significant enough investments to maintain infrastructure that in some cases was built more than 50 years ago.” Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has been meeting with members of Congress to create a funding bill to tackle the nation’s aging infrastructure.
